Spirituality in Every Sip

Passion Crafted into Every Cup

The thing I love the most about Vegas is that even though it is easy to get lost in all the amazing corporate food chains, there are still little hidden gems of privately owned food places that provide some of the best food and drinks out there.

One of the hidden gems that I recently discovered is “Coffee Religion”, a coffee shop located on the corner of Charleston and Brush St. The shop opened in 2019 and they believe that “what you drink is equally important as where you drink it.” With this motto in mind, they not only strive to make the delicious drinks but also create an ambiance that allows you to feel relaxed and at home in their space.

The owner of the store, Lotus, even took the time to transport an eleven-foot sculpture of the second buddha, the figure that brought Buddhism to Tibet. The transport took two months and allows all the guests the opportunity to mediate and find inner peace while they enjoy a delicious brew. The thing that really drew me into Coffee Religion was their Afternoon High Tea. They provide ‘reservation only’ high tea that is $35 per person and includes tea, finger sandwiches, and dessert. Coffee Religion also, of course, acknowledges COVID and offers a super cute packed to-go versions of high tea that you can take to the mountains or a park to enjoy in the outdoors. A perfect idea for a light-hearted date, just know their hours are 9am-3pm and they are closed on Sundays.

I know we all love a good Starbucks, but if you are feeling adventurous and want to take some time to center yourself over a good cup of Joe, this is the place for you. You can visit their website here: https://coffeereligionlv.com/

We’re sure you’ve heard about Punxsutawney Phil of Pennsylvania, but did you know Nevada has its own unique way of signaling the arrival of spring in the desert? His name is Mojave Max! Mojave Max, a tortoise residing at the Springs Preserve in Las Vegas, acts as a local mascot for the desert tortoise conservation program. Katrina Smith, the Senior Zoologist at the preserve, explains that Mojave Max's emergence is rooted in biology rather than folklore. Unlike a rodent seeing its shadow, which holds no real significance, the emergence of a desert tortoise is a biological event. For Max, the temperature inside his burrow must reach a certain threshold before he becomes active. This signals the warming weather, the blooming of flowers, and the increase in wildlife activity. When he emerges, it marks the official arrival of spring! Over the past two years, Max has emerged in late March, and his return has become a highly anticipated event. For over 25 years, local elementary students have been participating in the Mojave Max Emergence Contest, guessing the date of his big appearance. Mojave Max's emergence serves as a reminder that spring in the desert is not just a season, but a living, breathing change in the environment that calls for our attention and care!
