The Raiders are Back at Allegiant Stadium!

Despite Roster Changes, Expectations are not High for the 23-24 Raiders

The 2023-24 NFL season has arrived, and we're excited to share the upcoming schedule for the Las Vegas Raiders. The Raiders, coming off a disappointing six-win season, face uncertainty with significant roster changes, including the departure of longtime quarterback Derek Carr. However, the arrival of experienced winner Jimmy Garoppolo brings hope, especially with head coach Josh McDaniels being familiar with Garoppolo from their stint together in New England. The entire offensive line is returning this season, which bodes well for the running game, and Raiders fans are eager for a fresh start under Garoppolo's leadership.

One of the biggest hurdles that the Raiders will face this season is their challenging schedule stands out. The AFC West division boasts strong teams like the Chiefs, Chargers, and an improved Broncos squad, making it a tough divisional battle. The Raiders' defense raises concerns, putting pressure on Garoppolo to excel in high-scoring games. To make an impact this year, the Raiders need to secure key divisional wins and set the tone early, starting with their opening game against Denver. With offensive weapons like Davante Adams and Hunter Renfrow, the Raiders are poised to compete, but facing formidable opponents like the Bills remains a challenge.

Looking ahead, a critical stretch of games against teams like the Steelers, Packers, Patriots, and Bears offers opportunities for victories, while matchups against the Lions, Giants, and Jets present confidence-building chances. However, a challenging stretch against the Dolphins, Chiefs, Vikings, and Chargers will test the Raiders' mettle. As they wrap up the season, facing the Chiefs on the road is daunting, but they have winnable games against the Colts and Broncos. While the schedule appears tough, optimism surrounds the new-look Raiders, who have potential wins within their grasp throughout the season. Even with some potential wins on their schedule, experts are only expecting a seven-win season, a marginal increase over their performance last year. Their full schedule can be found below, with home games bolded:

We’re sure you’ve heard about Punxsutawney Phil of Pennsylvania, but did you know Nevada has its own unique way of signaling the arrival of spring in the desert? His name is Mojave Max! Mojave Max, a tortoise residing at the Springs Preserve in Las Vegas, acts as a local mascot for the desert tortoise conservation program. Katrina Smith, the Senior Zoologist at the preserve, explains that Mojave Max's emergence is rooted in biology rather than folklore. Unlike a rodent seeing its shadow, which holds no real significance, the emergence of a desert tortoise is a biological event. For Max, the temperature inside his burrow must reach a certain threshold before he becomes active. This signals the warming weather, the blooming of flowers, and the increase in wildlife activity. When he emerges, it marks the official arrival of spring! Over the past two years, Max has emerged in late March, and his return has become a highly anticipated event. For over 25 years, local elementary students have been participating in the Mojave Max Emergence Contest, guessing the date of his big appearance. Mojave Max's emergence serves as a reminder that spring in the desert is not just a season, but a living, breathing change in the environment that calls for our attention and care!
